The Szent István University has been established in 2000 by merging of several formerly independent
universities and col-leges provides education and training in several fields of life
sciences, engineering, natural resources, humanities as well as social sciences. Our
intstitution has now six faculties.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded more than 50 years ago, in 1950 in Budapest.
Within the framework of Szent István University, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has targeted to
increasingly expanding instruction in the area of technical sciences.

The current training profile of the Faculty has been developed from courses adapted to the technical needs of
the agricultural production. Since its founding more than 7000 specialists graduated from the School;
and they have been playing a very important role in the engineering life of Hungary, including the development
of agricultural production. The dynamic development of the faculty is indicated by new training projects introduced
at the School, many of which were introduced first of their kind in the country, as soon as legal conditions allowed it:
• two-step training (BSc and MSc qualification)
• double training, extramural engineer courses abroad
• modulated training

Since 2000, the training has been implemented at five different levels: accredited post-secondary program (2 years), college training (BSc, 3 years), specialized postgraduate trainings (former specialized engineer training) and PhD training. The School established the linear educational system in accordance with the European Union requirements in 2005.

According to the labour market needs and requirements, students can select from independent majors to meet their own goals and ambitions:
• mechanical engineering,
• mechanical engineering in agriculture and food industry,
• mechatronics engineering,
• engineering management

The general mechanical engineering training is very popular, allowing the students to solve successfully the various technical-technological, planning, manufacturing and operational problems. The number and characteristics of activities related to agriculture has significantly changed in the past few decades. Beside agricultural production in a tight sense, activities have also gained importance like primary food processing and agricultural extension service. The establishment of infrastructure in the rural areas, the maintenance of settlements, the area- and watermanagement, sewage-treatment and disaster relief all belong to the discipline of engineering in agriculture and food industry.

Mechatronics, as a field of profession, requires the integration of trainings in technical engineering, Information Technology .and electronics. With the knowledge obtained at this course, engineers will be able to harmonize the needs of these three special fields to reach a common goal related to the creation and operation of mechatronical systems. The engineering management training offers – in addition to basic engineering knowledge – disciplines like economics, finance, law and other social sciences.

The training at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the issued diploma are recognized both nationally and internationally. It is highly respected, so that the graduates are welcome in the job market and are offered very good career opportunities.

Among the research projects of the School high priority is given to the quality assurance and labour standards, computer-aided engineering, alternative energy sources, environmental engineering, mechanization of the agricultural production, material sciences and mechanical engineering technologies.

The Hungarian Electrotechnical Association was founded in 1900. It is a leading association of
engineers, dealing with the problems of the usage of electricity, producing it from traditional and
alternative energy sources.

VENUE
The conference will be held in Gödöllő. This beautiful town lies 30 kilometres to the north east of
Budapest, with a population of 30.000 people. The city is situated in a particularly beautiful area,
surrounded by the Gödöllő-hills. Its geographic location, all the natural, cultural, historic, and
industrial worth of the place offers great opportunities to develop continuously. Royal Castle of
Gödöllő is a nationwide interest, with the largest built-up basic area in Hungary.

This Barocque castle is also unique of its rich historic past and architectural merits. Another one of the
city’s sights is a country-mansion built in 1662 by deputy sheriff Ferenc Hamvay. The
Szent István University has its central departments in Gödöllő.

The Museum of the History of Agricultural Tool- and Machine Development can be found in the university town.
